When teenager Ren McCormack and his mother move from big-city Chicago to a small town, he’s in for a real culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, Ren can’t quite believe he’s living in a place where rock music and dancing are illegal. But he finds some small pleasure – Ariel Moore, a troubled but sweet girl with a jealous boyfriend and a father who is also the town’s bible-thumping minister responsible for keeping it dance-free. With the senior prom around the corner, Ren and his classmates fight the no-dancing law in the hope of revitalizing the spirit of the repressed townspeople. With its Oscar-nominated hit score (the film soundtrack album has sold over 15 million copies world-wide) this celebrated film musical now bursts explosively onto the stage at Marloo.
